In 1985, as AIDS was rapidly spreading, Catholic Charities in San Francisco was one of the first organizations to respond. A 20th anniversary celebration of this monumental support will take place on Monday, February 6, 5:30-8:30 p.m. The event will be held at Shanghai 1930, 133 Steuart Street, San Francisco, announced co-chairs Nanette Lee Miller, Christopher G. Needham and Robert Rybicki.

"Martinis & Jazz" will feature musician Spencer Day, traditional martinis provided by Blue Ice Vodka, wine courtesy of Jewel Wines, gourmet appetizers and an online auction.

The annual event benefits four CCCYO supportive housing programs for people living with HIV/AIDS, and their direct assistance and health programs, which collectively provide direct services to approximately 1,300 clients per month.

CCCYO Board Member Cecelia Herbert explains, “It’s a terrific event. I love bringing a lot of supporters to it because it combines a good cause with a great time two things that don’t often go together. Last year’s party was fabulous the networking was great, the food was superb, and the atmosphere electric!”

“The HIV Services Division of CCCYO operates the largest residential, medical-care facilities for those with disabling HIV/AIDS in San Francisco,” says Brian Cahill, executive director of Catholic Charities CYO. “Our four programs for people living with HIV/AIDS, and their direct assistance and health programs will benefit greatly from this engaging event.”

San Francisco singer-songwriter Day won a 2003 Star Search competition that propelled his successful, international career. While many peg him as a throwback for his clever, stylish, carefully crafted singing and piano work, the 26-year-old’s songs reference the timeless compositions of Ravel, Weill and Gershwin. Day says he's really “somewhere between cabaret and pop/jazz fusion.”

Shanghai 1930 is widely recognized as the best restaurant in the Bay Area for authentic Shanghai cuisine. Founded in 1997 by owner and UC Berkeley graduate George Chen, also the owner of Long Life Noodle Company and previous owner of Betelnut, Shanghai 1930’s environment evokes the atmosphere of a thirties-era Shanghai jazz club.

Catholic Charities, which merged with CYO in 2003, was one of the earliest responders to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in San Francisco, and is the largest provider of supportive housing for people living with HIV on the West Coast.

CCCYO, the social service agency of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, operates as an independent, non-profit organization. All funds contributed to CCCYO support their programs and do not support the operation of the Archdiocese.

Since 1907, CCCYO has been committed to serving all people in need, regardless of race, creed, or sexual orientation. Founded to care for the orphans of the San Francisco earthquake, CCCYO has been a leader in providing human services to the Bay Area for nearly 100 years. Today, they operate more than 30 programs throughout San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties. These programs change the lives of children, families in crisis, single parents, the homeless, the elderly and disabled, those living with HIV/AIDS, and refugees and immigrants.

Their CYO programs bring youth together of all socioeconomic backgrounds to take part in organized athletic programs, summer camp and environmental education.

Sponsorships for “Martinis & Jazz” are available from $500 - $25,000. On January 9, individual tickets, which cost $100, will go on sale and the online auction will be launched at www.cccyo.org.
