San Francisco, CA It was announced
today that Catholic Charities CYO’s 11th Annual Loaves & Fishes
Fund and Awards Dinner at the Westin St. Francis raised $1.5 million,
directly benefiting the social service agency’s 31 programs. More
than $9.5 million has been raised in support of Catholic Charities
CYO through the Loaves & Fishes Fund and Awards
Dinner over the past 11 years.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the 2008 Loaves & Fishes
Leadership Fund & Dinner successfully raised over $1.5 million to
directly help those most in need in the Bay Area,” remarked CCCYO
board member, Maureen O’Brien Sullivan who, along with her husband
Craig Sullivan, Co-Chaired the dinner.
Said CCCYO Executive Director Brian Cahill, “We were again overwhelmed
by how compassionately our supporters respond to the needs of our community.”
The 2008 Loaves & Fishes Awards were presented to Levi
Strauss & Co.
for Outstanding Corporate Philanthropy, to George M. Marcus for Outstanding
Philanthropic Works, and to All Stars Helping Kids and founder Ronnie
Lott for Outstanding Community Organization.
The 2008 honorees have displayed a dedication to giving back both
locally and globally, focusing their efforts especially on interfaith
collaborations, the arts, support of those with HIV/AIDS, education, children,
low income families and those in living in poverty.
The Loaves & Fishes Dinner is an annual event which has raised more
than $9.5 million for the programs of Catholic Charities CYO since 1998.
Created by Cardinal William Levada, Archbishop Emeritus of San Francisco,
and Clint Reilly, former President of the Catholic Charities CYO Board
of Directors, the Loaves & Fishes Award honors extraordinary charitable
works in our communities and raises vital funds for the agency’s
programs that help families, children and those in need.
