San Francisco, CA – It was announced today that Catholic Charities CYO’s 11th Annual Loaves & Fishes Fund and Awards Dinner at the Westin St. Francis raised $1.5 million, directly benefiting the social service agency’s 31 programs. More than $9.5 million has been raised in support of Catholic Charities CYO through the Loaves & Fishes Fund and Awards Dinner over the past 11 years.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the 2008 Loaves & Fishes Leadership Fund & Dinner successfully raised over $1.5 million to directly help those most in need in the Bay Area,” remarked CCCYO board member, Maureen O’Brien Sullivan who, along with her husband Craig Sullivan, Co-Chaired the dinner.

Said CCCYO Executive Director Brian Cahill, “We were again overwhelmed by how compassionately our supporters respond to the needs of our community.”

The 2008 Loaves & Fishes Awards were presented to Levi Strauss & Co. for Outstanding Corporate Philanthropy, to George M. Marcus for Outstanding Philanthropic Works, and to All Stars Helping Kids and founder Ronnie Lott for Outstanding Community Organization.

The 2008 honorees have displayed a dedication to giving back both locally and globally, focusing their efforts especially on interfaith collaborations, the arts, support of those with HIV/AIDS, education, children, low income families and those in living in poverty.

The Loaves & Fishes Dinner is an annual event which has raised more than $9.5 million for the programs of Catholic Charities CYO since 1998. Created by Cardinal William Levada, Archbishop Emeritus of San Francisco, and Clint Reilly, former President of the Catholic Charities CYO Board of Directors, the Loaves & Fishes Award honors extraordinary charitable works in our communities and raises vital funds for the agency’s programs that help families, children and those in need.
