San Francisco, CA It was announced
today that Archbishop George H. Niederauer will present
the 2007 Loaves & Fishes
Award for Outstanding Corporate Philanthropy to the Nibbi Family
and Nibbi Brothers Construction on Saturday, April 21, 2007,
at the 10th Annual Loaves & Fishes Dinner, benefiting the 33 programs
of Catholic Charities CYO.
For over 50 years, the Nibbi Family and Nibbi Brothers
Construction have been building structures to meet the challenges of San
Francisco’s
unique landscape, and have been doing so with a philanthropic mindset.
From the 1960’s when they began public works projects to recent
participation in the San Francisco Mayor’s 10 year plan to reduce
homelessness, the Nibbi’s have brought a sense of social responsibility
to the business world. In 2005, Nibbi Brothers opened the doors to the
largest new structure dedicated entirely to supportive housing in San
Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood, and last year they completed
redevelopment of Valencia Gardens, affordable housing in San Francisco’s
Mission district. Additionally, they have donated their services to various
Bay Area non-profit organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club,
Boys Town of Italy, and St. Mary’s Medical Center, and continue
to be one of the most generous supporters of Bay Area education, having
constructed student housing facilities and several schools.
In selecting the Nibbi Family and Nibbi Brothers Construction as a 2007 honoree, Archbishop Niederauer stated, “The Nibbi Family and Nibbi Brothers Construction have shown an unwavering sense of social and financial responsibility to their community and are an example of the immense difference corporate philanthropy is making in the lives of the Bay Area’s neediest. Due to their generosity, many of the Bay Area’s neediest families and children now have a place to call home.”
“The Nibbi family is quite honored to accept this
prestigious award. Our community service roots were planted from the beginning
when our founder,
Marino Nibbi, taught and inspired us to help people in need,” commented
Larry Nibbi. Also being honored are B.J.
and Bebe Cassin and The Cassin Educational Initiative Foundation for
Outstanding Philanthropic Works, the life and works of Leo
T. McCarthy for Outstanding Service to the Community, and the Auxiliaries
of Little Children’s Aid for Outstanding Community Organization. This year’s honorees are especially focused on assisting families and children in need from providing educational opportunities for inner-city youth, to building affordable housing for low income families, to advocating on behalf of poor families and foster children to providing direct aid to abused, troubled and homeless children.
The Loaves & Fishes Awards Dinner launches Catholic Charities CYO’s Centennial celebration, which honors 100 years of the agency’s work as a critical safety net for families, children and those in need. Created by Cardinal William Levada, Archbishop Emeritus of San Francisco, and Clint
Reilly, former President of the Catholic Charities CYO Board of Directors, the Loaves & Fishes Award honors extraordinary charitable works in our communities and raises vital funds for the 33 programs of Catholic Charities CYO. More than 6 million has been raised in support of Catholic Charities CYO through the Loaves & Fishes Awards and Dinner.
