Red House, Catholic Charities CYO’s annual fundraiser for its HIV/AIDS programs, raised a phenomenal $55,000 on Tuesday, June 3 at Mecca in the heart of the Castro. This festive event, which directly benefits supportive and health programs for people living with disabling HIV/AIDS, has raised over $300,000 since 2004.
This lively gathering of friends and community leaders also celebrated the 23rd year of CCCYO’s monumental support to those living with HIV/AIDS and honored Tenderloin Health, a CCCYO collaborator of more than 15 years that provides health services to the Tenderloin’s homeless and most vulnerable residents with HIV/AIDS.
For their leadership and support, a most grateful “thank you” to event Co-Chairs Nanette Lee Miller and Nicholas Andrade, CCCYO Board member and event co-host Mark Okashima, and Presenting Sponsors Kristine and Jim Silva.
Dressed in ‘red chic’, guests dined and mingled with a quintessentially Bay Area crowd—including Supervisor Bevan Dufty, media personality Donna Sachet, creator of Betty’s List Dr. Betty Sullivan, Tenderloin Health Board Chair David Krimm and CCCYO Board President Cecilia Herbert—and enjoyed dinner, cocktails, music, raffle and silent auction.
As a first responder to the epidemic in 1985, Catholic Charities CYO continues to be one of the largest HIV/AIDS service providers on the West Coast, helping to address the financial, medical and emotional stresses of those living with HIV or AIDS. The scope and reach of CCCYO’s HIV/AIDS services is profound considering that 25% of the HIV/AIDS population in San Francisco has received direct assistance from CCCYO. Specifically, CCCYO provides over 200,000 nights of housing for women, children, LGBT and other individuals living with HIV/AIDS this year and every single year since 1995, and has provided over $2 million to help offset health care costs.
About In 1985 as AIDS was spreading rapidly in San Francisco, Catholic Charities CYO (CCCYO) was one of the first organizations to respond. Today, CCCYO’s Assisted Housing & Health Services serves over 1,100 people annually and fills a crucial space in the continuum of care for people living with disabling HIV/AIDS in San Francisco by providing those most in need with supportive housing and case management. We are grateful for generous donor support, which enables us to reach out with compassion every day to thousands in urgent need.
As an agency, Catholic Charities CYO brings hope to some 40,000 individuals served each year through 30+ programs in San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties. From the very start, our commitment has been to serve all people in need, regardless of religious affiliation, race, creed, or sexual orientation.
Honoring Tenderloin Health Partners and collaborators of Catholic Charities CYO for more than fifteen years, Tenderloin Health is optimizing the health of the Tenderloin’s homeless, poor and most vulnerable residents by serving those living with and at the greatest risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS.
