Keeping families together. Our Family Housing programs support 172 San Francisco families and nearly 300 children through emergency, transitional and permanent housing and supportive services. We stabilize homeless families through a web of support that includes housing, meals, counseling, case management, medical care, job search support, children's activities, education, and employment-readiness services. "We used to sleep on a different friend's couch every night," says one client, 11. "You helped us, and now my family has a good place to stay. My dad even has a job now." Our Family Housing programs also take action to prevent evictions. Families who are at-risk of losing their homes benefit from monthly subsidies that keep them in their apartments, and that can also help with moving costs and childcare.

St. Joseph's Family Center

An emergency residential program for pregnant women and homeless families, St. Joseph's Family Center offers 10 families at a time housing, meals, counseling, medical care, job search support and children's activities. "I learned how to manage my money at St. Joseph's." says a client. "They helped me find a job, and they help my daughter learn to read in the evenings—giving me a break so I can get the counseling I need. Things are starting to look up for us."

Homelessness Prevention Programs.

Our goal? Help families that are at risk of losing their homes stay where they are. We facilitate rental subsidies by distributing city and federal funds—between $30,000 and $50,000 per month—to prevent evictions in San Francisco. This program also offers security deposit help and child care subsidies for children under age 3. Thankfully, we've been able to help a average of 50 families per month for the past ten years. We also get many general assistance calls and our staff does their best to refer people to appropriate resources.
