Foster Parent Training Opportunities In collaboration with the College of Marin, St. Vincent’s FFA provides a minimum of four training sessions a year, typically held on the third Saturday of the month. Other weekday training will be offered as well. Every foster parent is required to participate in a minimum of 12 hours of training per year. The training sessions are free and a delicious brunch is provided. Parents need to make their own arrangements for childcare. College of Marin, Santa Rosa Junior College, Solano Community College, and Napa Valley College all offer free training to foster parents. Foster parents are encouraged to join their local Foster Parent Association (such as Marin Foster Parent Association, Redwood Empire Foster Parent Association, Solano County Foster Parent Association) which often sponsors free training and provides a peer support network of experienced foster parents. Being certain to take care of yourself and your own emotional needs is an essential part of being a successful foster parent. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent in the Bay Area counties of Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Contra Costa, or Solano County please call us at 800.439.9080.
